What is the best way to obtain a job?

The importance of Networking

Every poll I've ever read and from nearly all my friends who've landed jobs in the last few years have shown me that You have to know the right people. That shouldn't be discouraging to job hunters, it just means you need to get out there and meet people. It seems basic to me but I keep talking to people who only apply for jobs online. It can work sometimes but not usually.

Absolutely

Ultimately, the decision to hire will be made by a human being. The last job "offer" that fell through for me was filled by an actual friend of one of the team members who interviewed me, or so I heard... so nepotism lives.

It is imperative to get out there and meet people and to connect with living, breathing people. This can be done in conjunction with online activities.

Two days ago I applied online for a position that was of great interest. I did a little research, called the company, got through to someone and expressed my enthusiasm.

What do you know -- today they got in touch with me! This would be my dream job so I'm not going to get to excited about it just yet, but a guy can dream...

When life hands you sh*t, make fertilizer.

best way to obtain a job

Online - You do not know who you are sending it to. Many times software programs will weed out resumes before they are even seen by anyone, looking for a key phrase or word

Submitting a resume in person = this is fine however, many times it will have to be forwarded to someone in Human Resources.

Giving it to someone you know (networking) is the best. t

Hi Anonymous:

Thank you SO MUCH for stopping by and sharing with us :)

I like the "giving it to someone" tip you mentioned. I am so over the "black hole" where you NEVER hear anything - no "sorry you did not get the job"(lol). Never use to be this way before the recession, I have files of the famous "rejection" letters from past job hunting projects. But now I don't get even those...
