Update with good news

Hey, everybody. I posted a response here a week or so ago about an interview I had scheduled, and about working in a crappy job to keep body/soul together.

The interview went very well, and last Friday, they made me an offer. Which I, of course, accepted. It's a position in the admissions dept of an online university.

This will be more money than the call center job I'm currently working, better benefits, a nicer schedule and a shorter commute. And, the best part, it feels like I'm doing the right thing.

Interview update

Well, back from the interview. I think it went pretty well, and they're even paying a living wage! At least what passes for a living wage in these parts. The interviewer said I would hear from her later this week and would i be available to start next Monday? Hell, yeah! So, pending the background check, I'll hear by the end of this week. Fingers are officially crossed!

maybe things are starting to look up?

Hi, all. Yesterday, I did an online application for a local company that's in my previous industry, submitted it and half hour later, they called! Wow! I have an interview set for Monday morning! It's not a permanent job, but a seasonal long term thing that will carry me thru next February. (If they make an offer, right?) But, hey, that sounds pretty good to me right now. So, think a good thought for me - for all of us - and I'll let you know what happens. Have a nice weekend!

Offensive TV show this fall

I just read about a comedy on NBC this fall about a call center being outsourced to India, and I think this is an insensitve and offensive premise, considering the state of the economy. You can watch the trailers on MSN if you want, I wasn't impressed. Shame on NBC.

When you just need a laugh

You guys probably know about this Web site, but it's one that can make me smile on the worst days. So, when you just need to lift your spirits a little, check out www.icanhascheezburger.com.

I don't get anything by mentioning the site, I just like it.

has anybody tried this?

I signed up to take a tax preparer course, just wondering if anybody has done this?

Kinda weird

Ok, I don't know if this was one of my good ideas or not, but on a sado-masochistic whim, I went to my previous employer's Web site and found a posting for a job, in a totally different dept, that I am very well qualified for. So I did the online app and skill tests, and I have an interview tomorrow. My thought is better the devil I know....

Secret shoppers - are they legit?

I replied to a craigslist ad for a customer service rep and got an email stating it was for a secret shopper thing and directing me to reply if interested - so I did. Got a 2nd email telling me I would be receiving a check for $2300 - I was supposed to cash this, keep $200 as my fee and the rest I was supposed to take to Western Union and wire it, then report back with my observations.

Cashing a check of that size just sounds wrong - why couldn't/wouldn't they wire the $$ to my bank?

A little personal good news

Just thought I'd share a little good news. I registered with a temp agency this week and they called me this afternoon to give me my first assignment. It's just a one-day thing, data entry, but it's better than nothing.

Is anybody else using temp agencies? Are you finding that they can keep you busy or are there big lags between assignments?
