My daily opus
(I want to OWN that word -- "opus" -- on the search engines!)

Opus means "work." It is a countable noun, as in "her magnum opus," "a work of exhilarating genius." You could say, "I produced 12 opera today." (Yes, "opera" is the nominative plural of the word. Isn't etymology a gas! Rest in peace, Bill Safire; while I found your politics distasteful, you were a master wordsmith. D'oh! I digress. Damn you, ADD!)
This blog post is one of my opera today. It arises out of both love and obligation. Those 17 people out there who enjoy this blog deserve my best every single day! If I can't give them my best every day, then by golly, I'll at least throw them a bone every few days come Heck or high water, and that had darned well better be good enough considering the price.
This has been my pusillum opus (That means "tiny work" -- the opposite of "magnum opus" which is a great work.) for the day. If I can get it to come up high on the several searches people make on "opus" every month, it will have all been worth it!
Not really. What makes it worth it is knowing that somebody out there will get a kick out of it.
You see, that is what work is all about: Creating something that other people appreciate. Will they pay you for it? Probably not if they don't have to, and you wouldn't want them to if they were unemployed.
