Tidying Up
One excellent activity when unemployment hands you the great gift of time: tidying up -- not just scrubbing the floors, but cleaning up every area of your life, tying off loose ends and jettisoning any excess ballast that's keeping you down.
Today I completely purged all but the essentials from my files. Now I know where everything is again, and there's a lot more room for new stuff. To do this, I took every file out of the cabinet and made little piles on the floor: "general garbage," "shred," and a few "keep under _____" piles. You know what's funny? While doing this, I found a check for $300 that had never been cashed! It was almost as good as a day's work! Not only that, but -- and this was almost spooky -- I found some headshots that I had taken about a year ago when I was thinking about becoming an actor/model. After deliberation, I threw them in one of the "keep" piles. Not two minutes later, I got a phone call. It was my agent! Jesus, I forgot that dude existed! They've got an audition for me! It's a lucrative commercial gig if I get it. How weird is that?!?
In feng shui, keeping things orderly and getting rid of unnecessary things allows for current projects to prosper more easily and new projects to arise. It seems to be true based on my experience so far. One way of making lemonade out of the lemon of unemployment is to get things in order.
