Hand Injury Update -- mostly better
If you read this blog because you are interested in my personal trials and tribulations, you might be interested to know that my fingers work again. The knuckle is still a little inflamed, and it still hurts -- quite a bit sometimes -- but I have 90+ percent movement and use of the fingers.
All I can say is that if you ever have any kind of injury requiring physical/occupational therapy, do everything your doctor and therapist tell you to do no matter how much it hurts or how silly it seems. Those people know more about the mechanics of your body than you ever will. I'm very pleased with my recovery. My therapist says I'm about a month ahead of where I should be and that mine is the best recovery she has ever seen from this kind of injury -- I topped an 18-year-old kid she worked with a couple years ago. That makes me sort of proud... and I'm not really comfortable with pride.
Anyway, it's getting better. Picked up the guitar for the first time post-injury yesterday. Took video if you're interested... Kind of rough and the guitar needs new strings in a bad way, but it was fun.
So there's some good news.

Just arrived...
I've been unemployed for about 5 months now. Reading some of these blogs really hit home. I feel all the same emotions that you feel, I know that feeling depressed is probably normal, but i'm just tired of it now.
I have a claim under appeal right now and it's been about 3+ weeks and I haven't heard anything. I called the appeals office and the lady there treated me like I was a piece of shit, she was rude and abrupt, cutting me off before I had a chance to finish my sentence. Moments later she got back on and told me that my appeal is still pending and that they will call me when a date is set and hung up. I had a feeling that they would be rude, but I really wanted to go off on that woman.
I think the worst feeling is not recieving benifits while my appeal is pending, I don't even understand why they declined my benifits in the first place, that's what really kills me. You try and call EDD and all you get is a automated repsonse saying the best and fastest way to get a response is via email. I've sent a half dozen emails about the appeal already. I have bills piling up and no money to pay them. I cannot possibly think of asking friends for money, but I may need to swallow my pride and do just that, but even so-called friends tend to dissappear when the shit hits the fan.
Didn't they give you a reason?
Do you know the grounds on which they denied your claim? Is your former employer disputing it? If so, I would contact some of my former co-workers and quietly see if I could get some backup from them. If anybody was laid off at or around the same time as you, definitely track those people down. Their claims may have been denied as well, but there is strength in numbers.
If you win your appeal, you'll probably get the money for the three weeks that they kept you waiting so do whatever you can to win.
Meanwhile, hustle your ass off and scoop up any coin you can. Get out there and offer to do whatever you can. If you can tend bar, go to Google Maps, put in your Zip code, and search for "bars." Then call every bar on the list and ask them if they need a bartender. That's just one example. Do it for what you do. Don't waste your time applying for jobs on the Internet.
Welcome and good luck to you.
