How to Survive Anything

How to survive
This site is about how to survive unemployment specifically, but a lot of what what I say on this blog can be applied to other types of survival.

You won't worry much about your credit rating or background check if you are surviving in the wilderness, but the basic principles of how to survive are the same.

Whatever threat you may face, from cancer to divorce, can be overcome by following these simple maxims:

  • Don't freak out! Face whatever you are facing realistically. What's the worst that can happen, you die? That's going to happen anyway at some point so don't worry about it. Very bad decisions are made under conditions of hysteria. Control your panic, and it will help you make better decisions.
  • Let determination be your fuel. If you are determined to survive, you will, even if it means amputating your own arm.
  • Plan when you can, improvise when you must. The second half of this is the more important part. "The best laid plans of mice and men..."
  • Keep your eye on the light at the end of the tunnel. There is something to this hippy-dippy New Age garbage about controlling the universe with your mind, the "Law of Attraction" or whatever they call it. Envision yourself surviving and thriving and being stronger after this, and that is what will happen. If nothing else, it will help you keep your head straight. (Listen to me! "Far out, man! Groovy!")
  • Cooperate, don't compete. Seriously, don't worry about the competition. Focus on garnering the resources you can and deploying them effectively. This is survival, not increasing market share.
  • Play defense. Your flank is already exposed. Just lay low and mitigate the damage. Get aggressive after you get out of the wilderness with all your facilities intact, unless it gets to a point where you have to amputate your own arm.

That's it. Good luck!
