Plenty of Jobs in North Dakota and Nebraska

Looking to get out of the rat race and into a job?

If you can stand the isolation and rough winters, head for the prairie. Apparently, there is a shortage of labor in North Dakota and Nebraska. North Dakota businesses are actually closing not for lack of customers but for lack of employees. Here is a good place to look for jobs in North Dakota.

The unemployment rate in Omaha dropped to 4.1 percent in May. Remember when it was like that nationally? Well, happy days are here again in Steaktown!

Just putting that out there in case anyone feels like it might be worth relocating. There are worse fates.

I always wondered how the

I always wondered how the Dakotas, Nebraska, Wyoming, etc. always had lower unemployment numbers. I just assumed it had something to do with smaller populations. And maybe the industries there are more recession-proof?

Where does this propaganda come from???

I live in Nebraska and the job market is terrible.

I have known several people who have lost homes and I have been out of work for a year!!!

Maybe compared to someplace like Michigan, Nebraska is great, but there is no comparison to how the job market was 5 years ago when I decided to change back to a previous line of work (nursing). I found a job then within 3 weeks and I hadn't worked in nursing for over 5 years!

The worst part is feeling like it is my fault, my flaw, that I am unemployed. Everyone has bought the propaganda that there is a nursing shortage to fill up the nursing schools with paying students. New nursing grads are having a worse time than I have.

I am reeling from getting turned down AGAIN yesterday for a job that seemed to be a dream come true. I had hopes that this long nightmare might be over. WRONG.

Thanks for letting me vent.

vent away

Thanks for the intel. Just goes to show that the numbers do lie sometimes. Nebraska's official unemployment rate is not much consolationto someone in your shoes.

Are you open to travelling or relocation? I have heard good things about those travelling nurse programs. Any experience with those?

When life hands you sh*t, make fertilizer.

Sorry to hear that, Catmom.

Sorry to hear that, Catmom. Correct me if I'm wrong, I always thought the perceived nurse shortage was that there weren't enough EXPERIENCED nurses. If that's the case, then I could see how the new nursing grads are in trouble. I also thought there are some programs that have unaccredited nursing programs as well that won't qualify for students to get licensed.

I feel your pain

The irony is that they are encouraging people to go into nurisng because of "job demand", only nurses are being laid off not hired. The same thing for teachers. They are encouraging college students to major in education while thousands of teacchers have been laid off. Maybe they are thinking that in another ten years or so they can hire new nurses and teachers at a bargain rate, while the older and eperienced will be turned down for jobs due to m-o-n-e-y.

hmmm

If you think you can't do it you may be right

Jobs in Nebraska and the Cold Belt

But what kind of jobs? I have over 20 years of doing administrative support work, and that field seems to be slowly disappearing now that any idiot executive can write his own letters on a computer and use spell check for grammar and misspellings. Also, what about people who are considered "aged out" for the job market. I'm over 50 (but a cute over 50) and my age plays against me. I love Nebraska (or did before they plowed 90% of the prairie under), plus there is a lot of history in that area. If I could be assured of a job I'd find a way to get out there, but I'm careful about how I plan things these days.
