key points in surviving unemployment

I am doing a study to identify the most important actions an unemployed person can take (like networking). Your input will be most appreciated. Thanks, Jim

What are you looking for, Jim?

Do you have a survey or something? If so, I would suggest attaching it to your post and asking people to download it, fill it out, and e-mail it back to you.

Surviving unemployment

It's a really complicated thing, trying to survive while unemployed. I haven't yet been able to get enough people to participate in those conversations for whatever reason.

In my opinion, the most important action one can take while trying to survive a period of unemployment is to hustle and get money. That should be something you do starting on the first day of unemployment, and you should do it every day until you have either created your own job or gotten another one. If nothing else, scrambling after cash will take your mind off all the other crap that comes along with being unemployed. Sitting around watching Oprah never helped a jobless person.

Anyway, this site is still pretty lightly trafficked. Maybe you should subscribe to the RSS feed and just sort of keep checking back. At some point there will be lots of lively discussions on getting through joblessness. That's what I hope, anyway.

I agree - money is first

Once you get the flow, the other stuff falls into place. It takes a while, though. I fixed two bikes in my first month, but the next month I fixed six. This month I've already done ten jobs and made almost enough to make my rent! Yeah!

You are awesome!

Are you advertising, or are happy customers recruiting more folks for you?

Mostly word-of-mouth

I did distribute some flyers on parked bikes, but even that led to more referrals than direct business.
