House vs Duplex

Well Folks!

I have exactly 2 more nights in our house before we move into a duplex. While I am happy to finally have electric so I can take a warm bath, I will miss the privacy (lol).

My boyfriend and our 2 dogs spent their first night at the duplex last night after he got home from work at about 10pm. He had hoped I would join them, but I did not want to ruin their "excitement" and elected to stay at the house. Yes, it is dark and scary being there by myself, but to be honest - I am trying to get my mind ready for the move.

Unemployed and in Debt

For those unemployed and in debt, there is, actually, some good news.

For both the gainfully employed and the jobless, debt seems to be the American Way. How all those banks lost all that money a couple of years ago boggles the mind when you consider the amount of money we're all paying them every month for debt service. Maybe the simple solution is the right one, as usual: the banks lost money because -- surprise, surprise -- the debts of the unemployed and underemployed go unpaid.

Arts and crafts

If any of you make crafts, I found a website you may like. It's etsy.com they let people open their own "store" at very low cost per item, the only catch is that anything you list has to be handmade. Maybe you could make a little money from making stuff while trying not to pull your hair out. Hope someone finds this helpful.

Sprint Offers Free Service to Michigan's Unemployed

I got an e-mail from someone at Sprint yesterday asking me to pass along this information, which I will gladly do.

Of course they're doing it for good PR and marketing, but does that really matter? Anything that helps people (and doesn't hurt other people) is good, even if there is an ulterior motive. Good on Sprint for doing the right thing and helping poor folks in Michigan. The program has already launched in Tennessee and New York, and they're planning on expanding the program to other states too which is great.

How to Make Money (video)

If you mean business, watch, then read what's below the video... then watch my other videos and read what I've written about them. Then act.

This is how it works if you want to make money

  • Step One (per earlier video): Give the people what they want. Ask not how you can make money, but what you can provide that people want or need. Figure out how you can provide something that people will value more highly than they value a certain amount of money
  • Step Two (per this video): Actually give them something that they want, without thought of money.

(Keep reading to learn how this works and get a teaser on the next step.)

Unemployed Grocery Shopping (video)

Ideas on stretching your food dollar

I learned something about video editing while making this -- if you shoot at 60fps, you need a really good video card. This looks beautiful plugged directly into my TV, but my computer's on-board video card just couldn't handle it. It's kind of jerky. Live and learn.

By the way, that smudge under my left eye is just some schmutz from Saturday house cleaning. Nothing to worry about -- not a melanoma or anything for those of you who know that I don't have a birthmark there.

Ummm... so I hope this gives you some budgeting ideas. If you're shopping for a family, the "no cart" thing might not work unless you bring the kids with you to shop. Otherwise, it's almost universally applicable advice.

Shoestring Budgeting for the Jobless

How to save between $505 and $3,370 every month

The second you find out that you are unemployed, you should be thinking about your budget and how to trim it. Over the years, I have become an expert on frugality, and I owe it all to joblessness. (See, there really is a silver lining in every dark cloud!) All ten of these tips are things that I, personally, do or have done. If you have others, please add them in the comments. (It makes me so happy when people comment!)
