Out of benefits..just venting

I will now get my last two weeks of benefit. As of Easter Sunday, I will officially ran out of my unemploymet benefits.. including the extensions.

I am older, experience and have education/skill sets..my spelling not always not so great... thank god for dictionaries and spell check!

unemployment overpayment?

Ok, so my husband took a temp job the end of July 2010, right about the same time the cons in cogress reinstated the extended benefits. He recieved his back payment, which allowed us to pay rent and catch up on the light bill at the time. It also allowed him to have gas money to drive back and forth to his temp. job which he has been led to believe, if he busts his butt, and is there anytime they want/need him to be, will likely result in a permanent job. He was also led to beleive he would be working up 16 hrs. a day when the peak season hit.

Unemployment benefits will stimulate the economy

THIS JUST IN….
Really smart analysts believe recipients of last week’s unemployment benefits extension are sure to go out and buy things. That’s right, you correctly it read: unemployed people desperate to pay for water, rent, and Ramen noodles are expected to stimulate the economy.

"Can Unemployment Find Paypal"

That search string brought someone to this site recently.

I assume that the person who asked that question to the Almighty and (we hope) Benevolent Google was worried that some sort of income had made its way into their Paypal account, maybe by way of E-Bay, and they're worried about whether or not it will jeopardize their unemployment benefits.

Can I collect unemployment benefits...

(Note: General information about eligibility for unemployment benefits.)

... if I quit my job?

Answer: Probably not, and that's only fair. Unemployment benefits are for people who can't find work, not for people who don't want to work.

HOWEVER

An informant at the at the New York State Department of Labor tells me that -- in New York at least -- there are cases in which you may receive benefits even if you quit or resign from your job. The reasons for this:

Rules of Collecting Unemployment

Information to help your claim

A lot of people looking for tips on the ins and outs of collecting unemployment benefits find this site. To that end, I try to provide very simple explanations that carry over from state to state. Specific rules and regulations vary widely so make sure to contact your state's unemployment office if you are unclear.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Now that I have purged much of the vitriol from my system, it's time to get back to the stated purpose of this site: Helping people (and myself, frankly) to survive unemployment, telling the stories of unemployment, blogging for the good of all humankind. All that good stuff. I've done my barking, now it's time to wag a little.

Here is a question that I get a lot (in an offhand way -- people search for it)

Can I continue to collect unemployment benefits if I move out of state?

Filing for unemployment benefits

Who can collect benefits?

The requirements for filing a successful claim will vary depending on your state of residence, but it generally comes down to these three questions:

1) Did you lose your job through no fault of your own?
2) Did you hold your last job for longer than six months (in many states, it's up to a year)?
3) Are you currently working, even part-time?
