Positive Attitude

What good is a positive attitude, anyway?

When I was deep in the throes of depression wrought from joblessness, nobody could say anything that made me feel better. In fact, I resented it. It was especially galling when some lucky gainfully employed person would say something like, "Don't worry about it Chuck. You're a smart guy. You'll find something soon."

Yeah, well, I had been looking for many moons and nothing had presented itself. Those types of words rang hollow, and not in the good way that a drum rings hollow.

One Day At A Time!

Sometimes it is very HARD to keep your eye on the prize, but we have to. Take it one day at a time, doing little things that will get you closer to your goals. Before you know it, you will have accomplished your goal.

Fear -- Master it or it will master you.

Unemployment may be the scariest experience of your life.

Conquer this, and you can conquer anything.

If you were reading this blog a couple of years ago, you have some inkling of how terrified I was at that time. First I was terrified that my wife would move out (she did... sort of, anyway, she stuck me with a bunch of bills and ran up her own). Then I was stricken by terror at the prospect of having all these bills and little/no money coming in. Many a night I tossed and turned, sweating the prospect of homelessness.

The Only Moment that Matters

Warning: This little foray into Eastern Philosophy and pop psychology might get a little hokey!

But what the heck -- it works for me.

Unemployment Is Not a Death Sentence

It's not even life without parole.

In fact, the only prison is the one you may have created for yourself,

which is easy to do and totally understandable.

Progress Is the Child of Struggle

Overcoming fear by doing things that make you uncomfortable is difficult but well worth it

A couple of days ago I disclosed my lifelong phone phobia. Even calling people I've known forever is challenging for me, but cold calling to drum up business? Forget it. I literally break into hives just thinking about it.

Unemployed and Bored

Wow, have I ever been remiss!

This blog has been around for over a year now. That's like 30 in blog years. Most bloggers give up after a few months. It's understandable. You work your butt off for every pair of eyeballs in this business.
