Rejection Marathon

I am a UX Designer with computer science background. I have worked and studied for many years at Universities. I have two masters degrees, one from Stanford. Since 18 months ago when our project didn't get any more funds I have been applying for jobs in industry. I live in San Francisco and life here is very expensive. I have applied to as many as 150 jobs, have had about 60 phone screens and went to 30 onsite whole day interviews. In average I get one rejection per two weeks. I get an interview, I get excited, I prepare my portfolio and presentation.

from one side to the other...in a matter of minutes

It is an odd and jolting thing- going from one side to the other. I had an OK job for 7 years at a restaurant. Then, one day, I was fired. Without warning. Business was down, had been down, and I was making a wage that didn't reflect current sales as I had been there so long (when times were better). I was never truly, or even remotely, passionate about my job, but it paid the bills and accomidated my custody schedule with my amazing 7 year old son. I had heard of people losing jobs and with each new horror story- I felt more and more greatful for the average job that I did have.

WOW - OH, BOY.... WOW!!!

I started this escapade in September of 2010. A little late to the game but unemployed none-the-less.

I was being constantly set-up for failure in my job. The management at the company didn't like me. I was successful in spite of them, not with their help.

My marriage was a disaster. It was my second and I knew it was a mistake shortly after the "I DOs". Then it took me 4 1/2 years to actually do anything about it.

Offensive TV show this fall

I just read about a comedy on NBC this fall about a call center being outsourced to India, and I think this is an insensitve and offensive premise, considering the state of the economy. You can watch the trailers on MSN if you want, I wasn't impressed. Shame on NBC.

Jeeeze!

HI folks!

I have been keeping current on the political situation, regarding the jobless, as best I may.

I'm pretty upset at the arrogant and uncaring attitude of some of our so-called leaders. Now one would like to think that these folks are " really concerned with the common good" . I listen to their aguments about cutting off the jobless from benefits they are entitled to as taxpayers. Cutting benifits earned by vets of the last few wars, also jobless and in need of care.

going on three months now...

Ok, so it's going on 3 months now since I got laid off as part of a corporate downsizing. I worked for a BIG health insurance company, had been there 6 years, and was a very good employee - no big news, right? All kinds of good people get laid off/downsized while watching and scratching their heads over who got picked to stay. I managed to land one of the census taker jobs, which will carry me thru next month, and then unemployment again. I have good days and bad days now, sometimes all within the same day.
