Interview and then a second

Ok, had an interview yesterday, one of those group seminar things with a biig insurance company. The job is sales. Here's the thing: I have no sales experience, and this is a commission based position. They called me back last night to invite me to a second interview on Monday. I'm going to it, but i have deep reservations about commssion-only. Any advice??

Be very careful

Some of those commission-only insurance positions are nothing but scams. You put up all the money and time for your licensing. You put up all the money for gas when you're driving around to sell people what is often crummy insurance. If you've never done sales, you could fail, and it could cost you a lot of money.

I almost fell for one a few years back. Did not go for it because it became apparent to me that it was basically a scam. Unfortunately, I had already put up the money for the classes and exams (passed with flying colors, of course). Oh well. Live and learn.

Not saying your "opportunity" is such a scam, just alerting you to the possibility that it is. Some people do OK with, for example, Aflac, but most don't, and that's crummy, unnecessary insurance anyway.

That whole industry is scummy. I am *so* glad I never pursued that.

I've come to the same

I've come to the same conclusion. It's too much of a risk. I'll go to the interview tomorrow, but ultimately, this is one I'll walk away from.

"Primerica"?

So this is really for everybody.

Just got contacted by someone from this organization ( Primerica). I had never heard of them but the called and gave me this rap about looking for people with good people skills etc. I live in Brooklyn, and there want to interview me in LI tomorrow. I goggled them. Seems fishy; they do financial couching and debt consolidation. Ugh. Not only does it it sounds boring and sketch, but something seems off about it.

Has anyone else been contacted by them? Anyone ever heard of them?

My dad tried this for a while

He dropped it. It is fishy, even though they'll sell you on it based on the fact that it's affiliated somehow with CitiGroup.

Basically you sell mutual funds and insurance to people you know. Me personally? I think that's a sleazy way to make a living.

4 years ago they got my phone

4 years ago they got my phone number. A new recruiter would call me about every 3 days and I would explain to them to take my name off their contact list. I did not want their job opportunity or them to contact me. It took 9 months and a letter to the president to have them take my phone number off of their recruiting list. Beware if you give them your number.
