Unemployment benefits will stimulate the economy

THIS JUST IN….
Really smart analysts believe recipients of last week’s unemployment benefits extension are sure to go out and buy things. That’s right, you correctly it read: unemployed people desperate to pay for water, rent, and Ramen noodles are expected to stimulate the economy.

See example story at http://marketplace.publicradio.org/display/web/2010/07/26/am-extension-o...

“Ya know,” said one fictitious job seeker, “I was going to buy groceries…but then I got my benefits check and I decided to do the smart, God-and-country thing. So I got myself a new, heavy duty power sprayer.”

“But…sir,” responded a confused, fictitious reporter, “it doesn’t look like you have a driveway.”

“Right…well, I used to before my bank repossessed it. But with this new money, I feel stimulating…ya know…so I’m hopeful to land a job soon and resume my career as a personal financial counselor. And THEN, when I can afford to have my driveway reinstalled, I’m gonna keep that sucker clean as a whistle.”

THIS (ALSO) JUST IN….
