Background checks
Hi--- I have recently seen on several job support sites that they recommend doing a background check on YOURSELF (costs about $25).
They say that then you can see what an employer would see, correct any errors or clear up any issues.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks :-)
You should have an idea what is out there about you to begin with - but if I had the EXTRA cash, I would run one on myself out of curiousity. Great post.
Most people should have an idea if anything is out there which may preclude a job offer, such as a moving violation on their drivers license and they are applying for a delivery position!
I had a situation when I got my credit report(and score) from all three entities a couple of years ago and on the report had an address where I never lived. I was supposed to move into a rental townhouse and 7 days before the move in, I got a call telling me they rented it to someone else. No, this was not a private home but a townhouse complex. My mother had just died 2 weeks previous, it was a mess. ANYWAY, that address has shown up on my credit report because I had done initial utility/ change of address stuff prior to my move in.
I have no traffic tickets, no outstanding warrants, etc. But since there is this type of error on my credit report I was wondering of it was prudent to do a background check. I would chock up the $25 as an investment (similar to school) in my job search.
Thanks for the comments and feedback. :-)
Didn't really turn up anything. Thought it was a waste of $20. I was approached by one of those companies to be an affiliate. They would give me a little cut for everybody who got a background check after clicking through from this site. Decided it wasn't something I felt at all good about and declined the offer.
I suppose it couldn't hurt to check up on oneself, though. At the very least it's a good idea to check out your credit reports and scores from time to time. If you get one of those "free" credit reports, just make sure to cancel the ongoing service if you don't want it.
