Hi Everyone!
Happy BELATED Thanksgiving :)
Any suggestions for job searching in another state?
I am living in Orlando, Florida at the moment due to not being able to locate a "source of income" (note term/lol, over finding a regular 9 to 5 job) in Phenix City, Alabama. I moved here in July of this year and was fortunate to obtain a temporary position at the local university working with an Engineering professor.
I am staying with my adult daughter and her roommate and paying my 1/3 of all expenses and saving what is left over to purchase a reliable second-hand car when I get back home. The public transportation there is a joke. And it has made it very difficult for me to locate an "income" there and the expense of using a cab is getting ridiculous for my boyfriend. He is an image consultant for Men's Wearhouse in Columbus, Georgia - not far from our home. So having a car would be a "win-win" situation.
My background is in "Office Support", female and age 52. I am open to learning NEW things.
Thank you.
Hi smjennings:
Just saw your info, thanks.
LOL, I am now in my target area and still looking but not giving up hope.
Talk later!
If you have a targeted area, you can add something like "Relocating to the X Metro Area in MM/YY" in the resume header under your address. Additionally, Google Voice is a VOIP that will let you pick a number and have calls forward to your phone. So you could pick a local number in your targeted area to make it seem like you're local. Finally, I would just make sure to indicate a willingness to self-relocate in your cover letter.
All of my interviews have been for jobs out of my Metro area. Usually, if they're interested enough, they'll call despite being a long-distance candidate. Unfortunately, that may be a ding against you (as in they'll prefer the local candidate), but it never hurts to apply.
