This is real market research -- it won't make you rich, but it will make you some cash and won't cost you anything but a little time.
One thing that can help you get through the day is to have a schedule. Getting into the habit of rolling out of bed whenever you feel like it and drifting through the day in a semi-living state will kill you. Set your alarm clock. I set mine for 5:15 because I like to feel like I've got a jump on the rest of the world. Whatever you do, get up before 8. Make a to-do list and do your best to get through it. Your to-do list could include watching Oprah, but make sure that there are plenty of constructive activities as well. The main thing is having structure and direction. One function a job serves in your emotional well being is that it provides a routine. You may not be getting the paycheck, but if you keep yourself constructively occupied, you will be getting one sooner than if you drift about like a ship without a sail. Having a schedule might not help you pay your bills. It will help keep you sane, though, and maintaining sanity will definitely help pay the bills.

What? No one ever told me that I'd have to get out of bed to get a job!
Fellow Hobos, let me share with you another outlet to get your foot in the door... I woke up the other day, and noticed that the newspaper I was using for a blanket, was the business section of our local rag. In it, was a regular feature called "People on the move" , which lists people whom have been appointed, or promoted at whichever business they're in. I was into hotels, and often times, a new hotel weenie gets a great paying job in that field. The one that I saw this day, was a new Director of Sales and Marketing at a prominent Denver Hotel. So, I wrote to him, along with my resume: Congrats..blah, blah, You must understand the importance of surrounding yourself with good people in key positions is critical to your success..blah blah, you can figure out the rest. It may help some of you too.
GREAT idea!
Half the battle is getting your foot in the door, and that takes a lot of creativity. The beauty of your plan is that you took it directly to the decision maker AND appealed to his ego. BRILLIANT! Thanks for sharing.
