An unemployed man in the UK stumbled upon one of the biggest -- and perhaps the most important -- finds of Anglo-Saxon gold in history.

Terry Herbert, a 51-year-old unemployed man hit the motherlode of gold artifacts believed to have been stashed by a 7th Century Anglo king using a $10 metal detector. The pieces are reported to be of extremely high quality, with excellent craftsmanship well preserved. Herbert kept 650 pieces of gold before telling anyone, which was smart of him. So far, around 1300 pieces have been found, weighing an incredible 11 pounds.

If the pieces were melted down for scrap, Herbert would be a millionaire, but of course these are priceless archaeological artifacts, hailed by archaelogists as "astonishing." The detail of the pieces is said to be unprecedented, and experts are amazed, saying that the quality of the work will re-shape perceptions of the Anglo-Saxon culture.

Mr. Herbert will be a millionaire. He and the land owner have agreed to split the proceeds, now estimated to be in the neighborhood of $4 million.
